UPAN History
American University of El Salvador, was founded
in 1989 as a public utility corporation, nonprofit, is a private
and secular. Place your home in the city of San Salvador, home
to the authorities and officials.
The university started its academic activities in January 1990
with headquarters in San Salvador and a regional center in Ahuachapán.
In 1991 he created Metapan, Sensuntepeque, and La Union. In
1993, born Lolotique Regional Centers and Sonsonate. And finally,
in 1995 San Vicente and Usulután.
That same year, the Upano obtained its legal status, according
to the 2432 Agreement of the Ministry of Education and 144 under
the Ministry of Interior, published in the Official Journal
No. 148 Volume 307, dated June 19, 1990. Beginning in 1992,
is named president of American University and Bachelor Dr. Oscar
Armando Morán Folgar, who continues in office in 1995, goes
into effect the Law on Higher Education, which generates changes
in the administration of all institutions higher education,
making Corporations to public utility corporations, nonprofit.
In the framework of implementation of this Act, there is a new
American university administration, which decided to concentrate
its efforts and resources only at Headquarters in San Salvador
and in two regional centers located in Ahuachapán and San Vicente.
The adoption of new statutes was obtained through an agreement
No. 15-1867 of the Executive Body in the field of Education,
dated December 8, 1997 and published in the Official Journal,
Volume 338, dated January 21, 1998 .
Under these statutes are upheld the operation of the university,
in accordance with new legislation. Likewise, authorizing the
updating of plans and programs of study taught the different
races, whose approval is announced on 22 December 1997.
More History
With the reform of the Higher Education Act
in November 2004, its statutes are again reviewed and approved,
which were published in the Official Journal No. 196, Book No.
369, dated October 21, 2005, by Executive Agreement No. 15-1125.
In this legal context, the university redefines its mission
in 2002, to "train professionals integral to academic excellence,
committed to building a more equitable, just and humane, highly
accountable to the challenges posed by the country's development
, the region and the world.
" As part of this educational philosophy,
the government of the institution strives for the pursuit of
continuous improvement of academic management and administration,
to develop the school made through the Teaching, Research and
Social Projection.
The university is linked to national and
international organizations, among them:
El Consejo Nacional
de Rectores de El Salvador, CONARES, y la Asociación Nacional
de Universidades de América Latina y el Caribe para la Integración,
AUALPI. In 2007, the UPAN entered the onsejo Iberoamericano
en Honor a la Calidad Educativa (CIHCE), based in Lima, Peru
